AMS is as a leading Manufacturer of Passive Acoustic Monitoring Systems for marine mammal monitoring and mitigation.
With over 25 years of experience in the seismic survey industry, AMS focuses specifically on the development and manufacture of passive acoustic monitoring hardware and combines a wealth of technical expertise in the areas of electronics, machining and cable design in order to produce the latest, high quality Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM) systems.
Our standard systems can be used in towed or fixed configurations. We can also offer new lightweight systems with long or short cable lengths for use on small boats where the hydrophone will be simply be deployed over the side of the vessel.
Our PAM systems are fully compliant with JNCC 2010 guidelines and
and cover the full range of marine mammals. Systems can be offered as standard in small or large configurations or can be customised to suit specific requirements. As well as offering our own systems we are also OEM manufacturers for other PAM providers.
AMS PAM systems are currently in use on several UK offshore windfarm installations, as well as various seismic surveys off the coasts of East and West Africa. These systems are robust, compact and field tested to give the best combination of performance and reliability.
Our systems combine some of the latest electronics, hi-spec components and durable, robust materials together with a focus on user friendly design and reliability in order to reduce downtime wherever possible.
As well our standard range of products we are also happy to consider custom projects, manufactured to the customers requirements.
Systems are available for rental or purchase.
AMS PAM systems have been successfully deployed from a number of different vessels of varying sizes.
Training is available free of charge (approx half a day usually) to provide MMO's/PAM operators with the necessary know how to setup and run the system.
AMS can also provide PAM operators that are familiar with our systems if required.
Equipment setup and operation are straightforward and instructions are provided for both hardware and software configuration.
Email and phone support are also provided free of charge.
As we focus specifically on manufacture we are continuously investing in the latest equipment and technology.
Our towed passive acoustic cetacean monitoring systems are designed to be compact, robust, durable and easy to handle.
The systems use high quality materials and components in order to minimise expensive down time once out in the field.
AMS are also able to manufacture passive acoustic monitoring systems that can be used in a fixed location or over the side of a boat where towing is not required.
Acoustic monitoring is usually used at night and at times when there is low visibility such as during bad weather, where visual observation is not possible. Underwater sounds such as vocalisations from marine mammals, seismic airguns and piling activity around offshore windfarms and other installations are picked up by the hydrophones and displayed on the computer screen in the form of a spectrographic display.
Sounds can also be monitored in real-time via headphones and can also be recorded if required. AMS systems also contain depth sensors to allow the user to know how deep the hydrophone array is being towed / deployed.
UPDATE October 2011: AMS systems are now able to utilise a new windows - based software program (in conjunction with our latest data acquisition A/D modules) that is very user friendly, easily configurable and very smooth / reliable for high and low frequency acoustic monitoring and recording.
AMS systems previously used the pamguard cetacean monitoring program and are still compatible with this program. Users have the option of using whichever software they prefer, or they can use both programs if required.
